Challenge

During Winter 2024, I wanted to jump on the hype surrounding biped robots by making my own smaller version. Without access to expensive brushless motors, I challenged myself to make the robot using the hobbyist servos I had used on my hexapod robot.

Solution

While currently in progress, I have created a design that allows each leg 3 degrees of freedom, while being lightweight enough that the cheap servos are able to handle the inertias created by the long legs.

Future Plans

My current goal is to enable the robot to stand and walk stably. I am currently working to determine whether the project will run on an Arduino board or with a Raspberry Pi and ROS2, and plan to work on this some more over the upcoming winter break.
